The Great Vegan Bake Off

We are super excited to announce the launch of The Great Vegan Bake Off at this year’s Maidstone Vegan Festival. Enter your show stopper and prove that cakes don’t need eggs or dairy to be incredible!

If you’re a keen amateur baker, then bring along your cake to display in the ‘Bake Off Tent’. This year, we’re asking that your show stoppers share a positive vegan message. We can’t wait to see your creations! The cakes will be judged at 3pm and prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

We are asking for a minimum donation of £2 per entry. All monies raised from the Bake Off will be split between Sylvia, a cow at The Retreat Animal Rescue and a by-product of the dairy industry, and the chicks at New Hope Animal Rescue, a by-product of the egg industry.

Our Aims

“Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.” (The Vegan Society)

Our aim for the Maidstone Vegan Festival is to get people excited about the “fastest growing lifestyle movement”! We are keen to show people that going vegan doesn’t mean missing out, and that veganism is an accessible lifestyle for all that will not only benefit the animals, but also our planet and health.

Visitors to the Maidstone Vegan Festival can expect to discover a wide range of food and drink, health and beauty products and treatments, clothing and gifts, as well as meet local animal rescues and find out more about activism in the community.

FAQs

Is there an entrance fee?

Yes, it costs £4 for adults and under 16s are free (must be accompanied by an adult). The entrance fee is payable by cash on the door.

Can I bring my dog?

No, only guide dogs are allowed. This is the venue's rule, however, we also feel the festival isn't a suitable event for dogs given how busy it can get and how much food will be around!

Can I bring my own food in?

No, only under special circumstances (i.e. for a baby or for severe allergies). Our food stalls will be offering an incredible variety of meals and snacks to choose from.

Where can I park?

There are many car parks located around Maidstone. The best options for long-stay are at Maidstone East station car park, or to get the Park and Ride.

How do I get to the festival?

The festival entrance is on Union Street, which is just off Maidstone's main high street. You will not be able to enter from Brewer Street.

Is there disabled access?

Visitors using a wheelchair will be able to access everything on the ground level, including the lawn. Unfortunately there are no lift facilities at the church to be able to access the upstairs rooms.

Animal Aid

image41

Animal Aid was founded in 1977 and campaigns against all animal cruelty. They conduct undercover investigations into factory farms, slaughterhouses, ‘game’ bird farms, and other such places to expose the reality of animal farming to the general public. They also have a very effective Education Department and school speaker programme.

Gambardeli's

Gambardeli’s sells tasty meat alternatives in chilled packs to go and offers free tasters of these products.  I also offer hot food based on my products such as Greek Souvlaki in a wrap with salad and Tatziki as well as ‘steak’ and onion pies, Cornish style Pasties and sausage rolls.  Of course, everything is vegan.  I am vegan and all products are made in an all vegan kitchen. Products include a BBQ pack - steaks, sausages, burgers, Ribz- Deli slices, Pastramve and Chorizvo.  We have Epic and Greek roasts and, our Wellington with chestnut and mushroom Duxelles won a Silver Award at the British Pie Awards, 2019. Roasts and Wellingtons are available to order for pick up at the Festival.

Cats Protection

image44

We will provide people with information about caring for cats and how they can support cats who have been abandoned. Whether organising regional and national events or making the news, Cats Protection is always keen to encourage active participation and spread awareness. As a charity, we rely solely on the generosity and kindness of the public to enable us to go on caring for cats and kittens. Public support is vital to us. The uniqueness is where one may sponsor a cat pen and help many cats, the sponsor will receive emails regarding the cats within their sponsored pen and are able to login and see for themselves how the cats/kittens are getting on. Once a cat is adopted the sponsor will hear how they are getting on and will get regular updates on the next cat that takes up residence in the cat pen.

East & West Kent Hunt Saboteurs

image48

For over 25 years, hunt saboteurs have used non violent direct action to sabotage fox/hare hunts, and sometimes shoots all over Kent, both prior to and after the Hunting Act theoretically made hunting with dogs "illegal".
The hunters now use various loopholes in the law to continue to hunt live quarry, so we are needed more than ever to protect our wildlife from this organized and savage cruelty.

New technology means we have such tools as drones etc to film the hunters activities, and we also organise large demos at public hunting events.

Until hunting is finally banned outright, we will be there for our wildlife.
